Abstract

In this paper, we outline the formulation and development of a compiler-theoretic approach for processing SQL queries, where the effective utilization of both LEX and YACC is leveraged in order to enhance the accuracy of syntax as well as processing speed in relational database environments. Since the grammatical structure of SQL queries is complex due to the presence of multiple layers of nesting, various clauses of different kinds, and significant levels of precedence for the operators, accurate parsing of these queries poses a significant challenge in enterprise-level database systems. Through this proposed methodology, an efficient parser that is resilient enough to cover DDL, DML, and DCL queries is developed by utilizing the capabilities of both LEX and YACC.
